Birnamwood Hotel sold at auction July 26, 2010 The Birnamwood Hotel was sold at an auction Saturday morning, and the owner, Mike Poskie was disappointed that the highest bi was in the area of $18,000.
“At last I’m out of the tavern business,” Poskie, who resides in the Madison area, said.
Ron Schlueter of Hatley, who made the purchase, said he wasn’t sure what he would do with the massive building, and after the sale took a tour of the huge and historic structure.
The auction, conducted by Ted Fiesner of the Badger Corporation, went quickly.
The hotel has a rich history dating to 1901, but in 109 years times have changed and the three-story building that features guest rooms and apartments, has not been a profit center for Poskie.
“I come up almost every weekend to fix things,” he said, and he wanted those trips to end.
Until all of the “I’s” are dotted and “T’s” crossed, Cliff Brunnecker will continue running the place.
He stressed just after the sale that he is ready to be gone from the hotel, too.
