Philip Boivin dies in Wausau-area accident July 26, 2010 Officials are investigating today whether a medical ailment may have led to a fatal crash in Marathon County Sunday which left an Antigo man dead.
Philip W. Boivin, 64, died at Aspirus Wausau Hospital of injuries suffered in the accident which occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m. near Rib Mountain.
According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, Boivin was the sole occupant in a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo when it left a ramp that connects westboud Highway 29 to northbound Interstate 51.
Authorities said Boivin’s sports utility vehicle may have reached speeds of 100 miles per hour before he lost control of the auto, causing it to strike a ditch. The vehicle flipped several times, causing him to be ejected.
He was not wearing a seat belt. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
The mishap remains under investigation.
