Kids From Wisconsin performing at the Volm Theater Tuesday. |
'Kids' present great program here July 21, 2010 The Kids packed the house Tuesday.
A state fair favorite, the Kids from Wisconsin performed two shows at Antigo’s Volm Theater and in appreciation of their hard work and talent were escorted off to their next location with a pair of standing ovations.
Serving as Wisconsin’s goodwill ambassadors, the Kids are a regular summertime tradition and are brought to the Volm through sponsorship of the Antigo Rotary Club and several local sponsors.
And as usual, their show did not disappoint.
A mix of rock and roll, a little country and even some swing, the concert opened with “Stand Out”, the 2010 theme, a performance noted for its optimism, confidence and full of Kids energy.A tribute to the “King of Pop” and the music of Michael Jackson followed before the band, with a mix of horns, guitars and percussion, lit up the stage with songs from the jazz-inspired Steeley Dan.
The musicians also took on the songs of the 1960s American rock band Three Dog Night before entertaining the audience with a medley of Gershwin tunes.
In honor of long time Kids choreographer Tom Terrien, who culminated 42 years of incredible choreography for the program, and after a 25 year hiatus the ensemble brought back an all-time audience favorite Bill Bailey, Won’t You Please Come Home?
Top-selling artists Journey, the Dave Matthews Band and the Broadway smash Grease rounded out the troupe’s selections.
Performing over 70 shows from June through August, the ensemble of 20 singer/dancers and a 13 piece show band will take center stage at the Wisconsin State Fair Aug. 5-15.
