Antigo Area Weekend Activities

Antigo’s summer farm market returns to the parking lot of the Country Store at Fourth Avenue and Superior Street Saturday.

There’s more on the docket as well, including golf and dining to benefit the Community Health Foundation, an appearance by the Kids From Wisconsin, and a special Music in the Park Monday night.

ENTERTAINMENT

The 11th annual Fuddfest karaoke contest finals are Saturday at Koni K’s Korner Pub in Elcho. The winner will receive a weekend pass to the festival.

Reflections, located at Fifth Avenue and Dorr Street, has ladies night specials every Friday. Tonight, enjoy Cream Savers.

Rick’s 45 Roadhouse Bar and Grill will host a summer celebration on Saturday. There will be a bike show from 1 to 4 p.m., hot dog eating contest at 2 p.m. and a pageant to name Miss Roadhouse at 8 p.m.

Discover Wisconsin River Cruises, which travel to the Hat Rapids Dam south of Rhinelander. Enjoy the Friday dinner theater featuring The Altos. Matinees are at 1 p.m. and the dinner show at 6 p.m.

GARDEN TOUR

The Antigo High School Band and Antigo Garden Club will sponsor their annual garden tour fund-raiser on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. It will be held rain or shine.

The tour will feature seven gardens, each with personal touches that make them unique and a must-see for everyone. Band musicians will be performing at each site.

A portion of the proceeds will be used for the band’s fall marching competition and the rest will be used by the garden club to keep some public areas spruced up around town.

Adult tickets are $5, with no charge for ages 12 and under. Tickets may be purchased at Natural Living or Lakeside Pharmacy and Grocery. Maps and addresses will be included with the tickets.

KIDS FROM WISCONSIN

The high-energy Kids from Wisconsin will swing into Antigo Tuesday.

Presented by the Antigo Rotary Club, Kids will perform at 2 and 7:30 p.m. in the Volm Theater at Antigo High School.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door.

SPIRITS AT THE LAKE

Spirits at the Lake, a golf outing and spirit sampling event, will be held Saturday at Bass Lake Golf Course.

The event is a benefit for the Community Health Foundation of Langlade Hospital. Golf is sold out but evening tickets will be available at the door for the spirit sampling, barbecue buffet, music, raffles and silent auction. It starts at 5 p.m.

SPORTS

The Antigo Elks Lodge will host its annual soccer shootout Wednesday at Saratoga Park. It is open to all boys and girls ages five to 13. Registration is at 5 p.m. with the shootout getting underway at 5:30 p.m.

Stock car racing continues tonight at the Langlade County Fairgrounds’ oval. Ticket booths open at 5 p.m. with racing at 7 p.m. sharp. This week will feature pro open quad 4-wheelers.

North Star Lanes features 50 cent bowling on Sundays, 6 p.m. to midnight, and moonlight bowling on Fridays and Saturdays, 10 p.m. to midnight. There is also buck night every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to midnight.

The Knights of Columbus will host a trip to the Milwaukee Brewers versus the Washington Nationals on July 25. Cost is $80 per person including bus, game ticket and beverages. Call 623-2189 by Monday.

THEATER

“Twilight Eclipse,” rated PG-13 has been held over at the Palace Twin Theater.

Screenings are Sunday through Thursday at 5:30 and 7:45 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 7 and 9:15 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Also showing is “Despicable Me,” rated PG. It is showing Sunday through Thursday at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 7 and 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

MUSIC IN THE PARK

Monroe Crossing comes to the City Park bandstand Monday for a special Music in the Park program.

Volunteers from Antigo Optimist Club and Friends of Optimists will be preparing and serving the picnic starting at 5 p.m. until the concert starts at 6:30 p.m. in Antigo City Park.

Sausages are donated by Salm Partners LLC, potatoes donated by Antigo growers and prepared compliments of Dixie Lunch, Farmers Home and North Star Restaurant plus coleslaw.

Homemade pies, ice cream and Culver’s Custard, compliments of Culver’s of Antigo will be sold by members of the Antigo Garden Club and Antigo Optimist Club families. The Antigo Garden Club, which maintains the plantings around the bandstand, will also be selling soda, coffee and water. Containers of free water will be located in the park. Antigo Optimists will sell deep fried cheese curds.

Music in the Park returns to its normal 7 p.m. start time for Thursday’s performance by Of Chorus!

OTHER EVENTS

Two great exhibitions share the wall space at the Woodson Art Museum in Wausau through Aug. 29. “Peanuts at Bat!” features the work of Charles M. Schulz while “The New Reality: Realism in the 21st Century” offers a fascinating glimpse of how art has changed through the years. There is no admission charge. Hours are Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.

The summer schedule continues at the city of Antigo Parks and Recreation Department. Upcoming events include the Elks Club soccer shoot-out on July 21, kayaking class on Aug. 3 and Movies in the Park at City Park on July 20 and Aug. 24.

Ascension Lutheran Church will host free Vacation Bible School next Monday through Thursday, 5:30 to 8 p.m. It is open to all children three years old through grade eight. To register, call 715-627-2232 or 715-627-0027.

Sandy and Wiley Crandall Jr. will celebrate their recent marriage on Monday starting at 3 p.m. at 1440 Saratoga St. Friends and family are invited.
