Antigo Area Weekend Activities July 9, 2010 The early season harvest has begun and Antigo’s summer farm market returns to the parking lot of the Country Store at Fourth Avenue and Superior Street Saturday.
There’s more on the docket as well, including entertainment, sports action and the popular Music in the Park series.

ENTERTAINMENT
Flannery’s Irish Rail in Polar will host Neon Lights Karaoke on Saturday starting at 6:30 p.m.
North Star Mohican Casino at Bowler will conclude its karaoke contest Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. The winner will get to perform at Deerbrook’s Fuddfest on Aug. 13. Sign up on arrival in the Groove Lounge.
The 11th annual Fuddfest karaoke contest continues with semi-finals Saturday at Koni K’s Korner Pub in Elcho. Finals are July 17. The winner will receive a weekend pass to the festival. Pick up rules at the bar and register by 9 p.m. Saturday for the night’s contest.
Reflections, located at Fifth Avenue and Dorr Street, has ladies night specials every Friday. Tonight, try the large root beer floats.
Discover Wisconsin River Cruises, which travel to the Hat Rapids Dam south of Rhinelander. Enjoy the Friday dinner theater featuring The Altos. Matinees are at 1 p.m. and the dinner show at 6 p.m.
SPORTS
Stock car racing continues tonight at the Langlade County Fairgrounds’ oval. Ticket booths open at 5 p.m. with racing at 7 p.m. sharp. This week will feature pro open quad 4-wheelers.
North Star Lanes features 50 cent bowling on Sundays, 6 p.m. to midnight, and moonlight bowling on Fridays and Saturdays, 10 p.m. to midnight. There is also buck night every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to midnight.
The Knights of Columbus will host a trip to the Milwaukee Brewers versus the Washington Nationals on July 25. Cost is $80 per person including bus, game ticket and beverages. Call 623-2189 by July 19.
THEATER
“Despicable Me,,” rated PG is now showing at the Palace Twin Theater
Also showing is “Toy Story,” rated PG.
Screenings are Sunday through Thursday at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 7 and 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
MUSIC IN THE PARK
Music in the Park continues Monday and Thursday at 7 p.m. in the bandstand at City Park.
On Monday, enjoy the Antigo Area Community Band. Thursday will feature Mark Harrod playing acoustic pop rock.
Don’t forget your lawn chair. Rain location is generally the high school commons.
OTHER EVENTS
Merry’s Berries is open for picking. Hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, supplies permitting. The patch is located two miles northwest of Antigo on Highway H. Call 627-4630 for prepicked orders and picking conditions.
The Antigo school district will hold an open house on Monday, 3 to 6 p.m., at the student-built construction class house located behind the high school. Bids are due on July 21 at 10 a.m.
Two great exhibitions share the wall space at the Woodson Art Museum in Wausau through Aug. 29. “Peanuts at Bat!” features the work of Charles M. Schulz while “The New Reality: Realism in the 21st Century” offers a fascinating glimpse of how art has changed through the years. There is no admission charge. Hours are Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
The summer schedule continues at the city of Antigo Parks and Recreation Department. Upcoming events include the Elks Club soccer shoot-out on July 21, kayaking class on Aug. 3 and Movies in the Park at City Park on July 20 and Aug. 24.
Antigo Country Store will offer an educational seminar on tick and mosquito-borne disease on Tuesday at 6 p.m. A local veterinarian will give a short presentation followed by questions and answers.
Some very unique items will be available at a Carbonari auction Saturday at the estate of Bernard Mitchell, 9950 Hwy. U, Elcho. The list includes a never unpacked 1961 model Sebring 3000/MX Saxon Austin Healey kit car with frame, never assembled, and a 1988 Ford semi tractor trailer. The sale starts at 10:30 a.m. with the big items at noon.
A garage sale will be held Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 8 a.m. to close, at N1550 Hwy. 45 S. A variety of clothing along with hunting and household items will be offered.
Peace Lutheran Church will hold Vacation Bible School Monday through Thursday, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Children three years old through sixth grade are welcome. To register, call the church office at 623-2200.
