Elcho board plans busy Wednesday June 28, 2010 The Elcho school board will review the 2010-11 budget and act on a variety of summer positions when it meets Wednesday.
The board will convene at 6 p.m. in the school theater.
Following the usual round of administrative and committee reports the board will review components of the 2010-11 spending plan, which will be funded in part by the second year of referendum spending.
In April, 2009, voters passed a referendum that allows the district to exceed state cost controls by $1.54 million over three years to maintain existing programs and erase a projected deficit that would have topped $154,000 for the upcoming school year.
For the 2009-10 year, the district operated with a budget of $6.4 million, funded by a tax levy of $5.1 million.
The board will also discuss a future retreat and review a variety of educational programs, including the Community Learning Center.
In action items, the board is expected to extend audiologist services, increase the alternative education position to full time, approve parent-funded student accident insurance, and pay its dues to the Wisconsin Association of School Boards.
It will also set the hourly rate for the summer food service assistant, approve a youth options application, and act on a parent request for alternative education program.
Other action items include the resignation of the head volleyball coach, continuing the SAGE program which reduces class sizes at the lower elementary level, and setting 2011 child care fees.
Following a close session discussion, the board is expected to fill a variety of positions, including summer school teachers, aides and facilitators, a temporary child care assistant, and head volleyball coach.
It may also announce decisions on staffing, and restructuring the administrative staff.
