Antigo Area Weekend Activities June 25, 2010 The final weekend of June promises to be a busy one across the northwoods, with the big Mole Lake bike rally, Antigo chamber golf outing and more all vying for attention.
A look ahead, taken from the Antigo Daily Journal’s advertising columns, follows.
BIKE RALLY
The Mole Lake Casino and Lodge is hosting its third annual Great Northern Bike Rally today and Saturday on the casino grounds in Mole Lake.
Tonight enjoy live music with Spin from 4 to 8 p.m. and Half Empty from 8 p.m. to midnight. On Saturday, Schoen Brothers play from 4 to 8 p.m. and Spicy Tie Band from 8 p.m. to midnight.
There will also be food, vendors, and comedian Dwight York as master of ceremonies.
ENTERTAINMENT
North Star Mohican Casino at Bowler will feature a karaoke contest Thursday nights through July 8 at 7:30 p.m. The winner will get to perform at Deerbrook’s Fuddfest on Aug. 13. Sign up on arrival in the Groove Lounge.
The 11th annual Fuddfest karaoke contest continues Saturday at Koni K’s Korner Pub in Elcho. Semi-finals are July 10 with finals July 17. The winner will receive a weekend pass to the festival. Pick up rules at the bar and register by 9 p.m. Saturday for the night’s contest.
Reflections, located at Fifth Avenue and Dorr Street, has ladies night specials every Friday. Happy hours are Tuesday through Friday, 2 to 6 p.m. Tonight is bartender’s choice.
Nick’s Tap will feature live music with Bi-Polar Saturday after 9 p.m.
Discover Wisconsin River Cruises, which travel to the Hat Rapids Dam south of Rhinelander. Enjoy the Friday dinner theater feature The Altos. Matinees are at 1 p.m. and the dinner show at 6 p.m.
SPORTS
The Antigo/Langlade County Chamber of Commerce will hold its 39th annual golf outing on Saturday at Riverview Golf Course. The four-person scramble will feature a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.
Stock car racing continues tonight at the Langlade County Fairgrounds’ oval. Ticket booths open at 5 p.m. with racing at 7 p.m. sharp. This week will feature pro open quad 4-wheelers.
The 30th annual men’s slo-pitch tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday in Townsend. It is sponsored by Townsend Festival, Inc.
North Star Lanes features 50 cent bowling on Sundays, 6 p.m. to midnight, and moonlight bowling on Fridays and Saturdays, 10 p.m. to midnight. There are also blind doubles every Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The batting cage at Kretz Park is now open. Hours are Mondays through Thursdays, 4 to 7 p.m. Get 10 balls for 50 cents.
THEATER
“Toy Story,” rated PG, has been held over at the Palace Twin Theater. It is showing Friday and Saturday at 7 and 9 p.m., Sunday through Thursday at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Also showing is “The Karate Kid,” rated PG. Screenings are Friday and Saturday at 7 and 9:15 p.m.; Sunday through Thursday at 5:30 and 7:45 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Advance tickets are now available for “Twilight Eclipse” showing Wednesday at 12:01 a.m.
MUSIC IN THE PARK
Music in the Park continues Monday with the MLC Blues Band. It starts at 7 p.m. and there will also be an old-fashioned pie and ice-cream social.
On Thursday, Rocker will perform classic 60s and 70s rock.
Music continues on Mondays, through Aug. 30 and Thursdays through July 22.
SALES
Antigo’s first annual twilight flea market will take place Saturday, 4 to 9 p.m., at the Langlade County Fairgrounds. It promises to be an old-fashioned affair with antiques, bargains, collectibles, crafts, snacks and more. Admission is $2.
Parsons of Antigo is hosting its 75th anniversary celebration through Saturday. Today, enjoy brats and Pepsi until 5 p.m. presented by the St. John, Pickerel, youth group and on Saturday stop down for a complimentary pancake breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m. There will also be a dunk tank featuring local celebrities, this afternoon. Classic cars will be on display Saturday.
A rummage sale will be held Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Upham town hall in Summit Lake. Bedding, toys, furniture, books, knickknacks, household and miscellaneous goods and other items will be sold. Proceeds will be used toward a lake study on invasive species in Summit Lake.
An antiques and collectibles auction will be held Saturday starting at 10 a.m. at the former Aniwa School. Viewing will open at 8:30 a.m. Carbonari’s Auction and Estate Service LLC is in charge.
OTHER EVENTS
Antigo Country Store will host a potato health seminar with UW-Extension ag agent Alex Crockford on Tuesday at 5 p.m. There will also be time for questions.
Merry’s Berries is open for picking—quite early this season. Hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily supplies permitting. The patch is located two miles northwest of Antigo on Highway H. Call 627-4630 for prepicked orders and picking conditions.
